Mobile Phones: Users 'seek new and diverse mobile internet experience'
The development of internet services on mobile phones could be one way to help meet consumer needs and drive sales, an expert has said.
Rob Dalgety, commercial director for Mformation Technologies, said users are increasingly looking for a "PC internet-like experience" on their handsets, demanding access to a variety of applications.
His comments come after research by communications firm Tellabs revealed that the use of mobile internet services is likely to grow dramatically over the next 12 months despite the economic downturn.
The study showed that more than 70 per cent of European and US handset owners expect to browse the web and view emails on their phones on a daily basis in 2009.
Mr Dalgety claimed that mobile operators should seek to meet such demand by working closely with internet service providers to help offer a range of "new and compelling services".
