TMCNet: UQ Communications Selects Mformation to Run Mobile WiMAX Service in Japan

Mformation's platform, which ensures that WiMAX-capable devices can be remotely activated and provisioned irrespective of their source, has already been licensed to operators such as Bell Mobility, Sprint, T-Mobile, Telefónica, Telus and Vodafone.

The UQ Communications venture is a partnership of KDDI Corporation, Intel Capital, East Japan Railway Company, Kyocera Corporation, Daiwa Securities Group and the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ.

Chipmaker Intel is one of the leading companies that are trying to promote WiMax across the globe.

The mobile WiMAX roleout for UQ Communication is significant as WiMax is expected to deliver mobile Internet, allowing users to access advanced data applications and personal content from anywhere in the WiMAX coverage area, on any WiMAX-enabled device.

“Working with UQ on this very important mobile broadband initiative is great validation of the power of our comprehensive MDM platform,” said Mark Edwards , CEO for Mformation, in a statement. “UQ Communications had very demanding requirements; we have consistently demonstrated our ability to support these requirements as UQ Communications moves forward with its aggressive plans for rollout of WiMAX-based services. We look forward to supporting UQ on this important initiative.”
