Device Support

Support for Device Interoperability Testing and Certification

The Mformation Service Manager™ platform supports more than 25,000 different device type codes from all of the major device vendors/OEMs, with new devices added every day. More than 500 million devices are under the management of Mformation platforms around the globe. A critical part of any device management solution is the range of devices supported on the platform. All key device makes and models need to be able to interact and work with the MDM platform for all key device management services and tasks. It is necessary to support the right devices when customers launch an MDM solution and be able to easily add support for new devices as new devices enter the market.

Mformation provides the most comprehensive set of device interoperability testing and certification solutions on the market. Mformation’s device support solutions cover: the broadest set of device models over the widest range of MDM use cases; the broadest set of standards and protocols—including OMA CP, OMA DM and WiMAX Forum specifications; and all key network technologies—including GSM, CDMA, WiMAX and LTE.

There are three components to ensuring device support: Mformation R&D, device self-certification and Mformation device certification.

MFORMATION R&D

Mformation invests in testing new operating systems, standards and device types ahead of the market. This ensures that we are able to support devices when they come to market. Some examples include:

  • Testing new devices before they come to market, operator-specific devices, legacy devices and standard “vanilla” devices
  • Testing for advanced OMA DM functionality (FUMO, SCOMO, LAWMO, LFMO, etc.)
  • Testing on CDMA, GSM, WiMAX and LTE networks, over all major frequencies, in all regions
  • End-to-end testing of all supported device management functions on the different devices

DEVICE SELF-CERTIFICATION

Mformation’s device self-certification solution is used by mobile operators and service providers to test and certify new devices.  Core device management use cases for new devices are run to assess compliance with operator and service-provider requirements early in the development process. Device self-certification includes:

  • Dedicated Mformation device certification platform — this is a hosted solution that allows mobile operators and service providers to get MDM test cases run against specified devices, either remotely or at one of our certification centers. The mobile operator or service provider specifies the test cases for a specific device, and the device manufacturer runs the test cases and presents the results back to the mobile operator or service provider.
  • This hosted solution:
    • Provides automated tracking tools for device certification management
    • Includes an online Certification Repository and report creation capabilities for real-time certification status and progress
    • Is self managed, enabling early detection of issues and providing cost-effective device development

MFORMATION DEVICE CERTIFICATION

Mformation can also provide device certification as a service. This management service ensures that core MDM use cases for new devices can be assessed and will comply with mobile operator and service provider requirements. Additional requirements (e.g., usability, user flows, etc.) can also be assessed at this time. Mformation device certification includes:

  • Dedicated Mformation Device Certification Center resources
  • Agreed-upon device certification timelines and SLAs
  • Automated tracking tools for device certification management
  • Online Certification Repository and report creation capabilities for real-time certification status and progress
