Automatic Mobile Device Detection and Management

Automatic mobile device detection and management

As mobile devices become more powerful and flexible, business and consumer customers alike expect new mobile services and capabilities to work first time, every time, whether on a new device, an existing device or multiple devices. More powerful devices coupled with rich services present challenges for mobile operators and service providers, who need automatic device management solutions for provisioning, configuring, diagnosing and securing devices and services quickly and automatically.

MFORMATION SERVICE MANAGER provides two separate automatic device management components that can help to intelligently automate mobile service deployments, Automatic Device Detector and Automation Manager.

Automatic Device Detector (ADD):

Mformation’s Automatic Device Detector (ADD) enables detection of new devices as soon as they connect to the network. It uses the proven and widely deployed SS7 connectivity protocol and covers the widest range of network topologies in the industry.  It can operate in either an intrusive or non-intrusive detection mode, enabling mobile operators to determine the level of network impact appropriate for their network configurations.

By triggering device management actions, ADD can automate a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Automatic device configuration (ADC): Automatic configuration of a device when it becomes available on the network ensures that every device on the network is correctly configured and working properly.
  • Automatic diagnostics: to ensure that key service parameters on the mobile device are always correct
  • Automatic application deployment and configuration: When used with the Software Manager module of MFORMATION SERVICE MANAGER, triggers push deployment of mobile applications and operator-branded packages such as themes, ring-tones, bookmarks, etc.
  • Content filtering for push services: Filtering is available as an API that enables an application to query the capabilities of the device before pushing content to it.

Automation Manager:

Automation Manager is a powerful and flexible rule-based engine that can be used to automate a range of device management capabilities, including activating, provisioning and configuring new devices, checking device settings and repairing them, updating out-of-date software on devices and updating device firmware OTA. This ensures that mobile devices are always correctly configured, and that device, service, software and firmware problems on the device can be repaired proactively and automatically. Using Automation Manager, mobile operators can significantly reduce the resources and operational overhead of managing mobile devices. Activities include:

  • Activating, provisioning and/or configuring new devices when they enter a network
  • Updating out-of-date software on a device
  • Updating device firmware over the air
