Software Manager
A secure, integrated platform for installing, updating and controlling/configuring mobile device software and firmware
Customers are demanding a more tailored and customized mobile experience. At the same time, they not only expect their devices and applications to work properly out of the box, they need seamless access to new applications and services. Enterprises are also looking to mobilize more business applications. Widespread deployment of mobile applications requires that they can be distributed and configured seamlessly, regardless of the device platform or device type. Without the ability to deploy, manage and update mobile applications and firmware remotely, operators can't flexibly launch new services or add new features. Operators need a platform that enables them to deliver new applications quickly and keep firmware up-to-date. End users need their devices and applications to work — first time, every time.
Software Manager provides integrated management for both software applications and device firmware. It provides a secure, integrated platform for installing, updating and controlling/configuring software applications, ensuring that customers can adopt and use new applications quickly and easily, and enabling a customized user experience. Applications can be distributed and managed on devices that support both the standardized and pre-standardized version of software components (SCOMO) and well as Mformation's extension to the SCOMO specification. Software Manager also provides a secure, intelligent, over-the-air mechanism for updating device firmware (FOTA), eliminating expensive device recalls and extending the life of customer devices. The product supports a broad range of mobile devices—from OMA standards-based devices to the latest smartphones. A dedicated certification team ensures support for the latest devices as they come to market, as well as ensuring that key tasks operate on the device (activating software, distributing firmware, etc.).
Application deployment
- Install/uninstall/activate/deactivate third-party applications and services over the air
- Track device software information
- Schedule application actions on groups of devices in real-time, at intervals or during off-peak hours
- Track and manage authorized/unauthorized software and device software inventory
Application configuration
- Manage third-party applications and services after they are installed on mobile devices. Commands are specific to the type of application being managed; for example, management of an antivirus application would include commands to start/stop, update virus definitions, execute scans, get subscription status, etc.
- Configure applications to ensure that they are set up for both the device and the mobile network
- Manage and configure third-party applications
Firmware update (FOTA) management
- Update firmware on standards-based devices over the air
- Manage the firmware package lifecycle, schedule firmware updates for groups of devices and report on bulk and individual firmware transactions
