Upal K. Basu, VP of Strategy and Business Development; Co-founder

Upal has more than 15 years of technology management experience, ranging from leadership roles in venture-backed technology companies to providing strategic consulting for industry leaders.

As Mformation’s founder and first CEO, Upal built and led the company through its first three rounds of venture capital financing, raising over $26 million, and establishing mFormation as a pioneer in Wireless Device Management. Prior to mFormation, he was a strategic management consultant for McKinsey & Company in New York and London, advising leading corporations on telecommunications and financial services. His advisory work included advising clients on major acquisitions, new market entry strategies, and the creation of new online businesses.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Upal led Product Management activities for Risk Management Solutions (RMS), the world’s leading provider of technologies for the management of insurance risks. At RMS, he was responsible for the success of three key software products, including an online property underwriting system, a GIS-based hazard management software product and a new risk mapping software application for the insurance industry.

Upal has an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MS in Engineering from Stanford University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, London.
